You can thank rabid Star Trek fans in the 1970s for the fact that we have a space shuttle named Enterprise. The very first orbiter was supposed to be named Constitution and unveiled on Constitution Day in 1976. A write-in campaign from Trekkers to President Gerald Ford convinced him to change the name (over the objections of NASA officials), because he was “partial to the name [Enterprise]” instead. A bunch of the Star Trek cast, along with series creator Gene Roddenberry, were on hand for the roll out of the Enterprise in 1976 (pictured above).”
